EAU CLAIRE, Wis (WEAU) — Valentine’s Day is just a few days away and a local organization is feeling the love a little bit early. Hello Wisconsin at the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley as they welcome a special contribution they received.

Roxie Schmidt –Flanders of the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley and Julie Hasenberg of Highland Fitness joined the show to explain their latest and greatest “Gaga Ball Pit.”

Roxie says, “Working with local school we also learned that they have a gaga ball pit. So it was something that we really talked about with our teen group of how we can build and get more in line with what the schools do for our gym activities. It includes movement, it includes social communication and really allows the teens to do it themselves.

“We are not talking about Lady Gaga but it is very similar. The game is you hit it in the pit and you have a lot of fun. Everybody gets to play together. Ultimately you start the game, you bounce the ball, and once the ball bounces 3 times everybody has a shot to get someone out from the knees below. You get hit in a underhand form and once you get hit you get out and its self-selection so it allow the teens to self-communicate and deal with it from themselves.

Highland Fitness and The Eau Claire Weightloss Challenge donated $1900 to allow the Boys & Girls Club to have the Gaga Pit.

Julie says, “It’s awesome! It’s wasn’t just Highland Fitness alone, Eau Claire Weightloss Challenge, all the sponsors so we’re losing weight and getting our community healthy and my daughter loves this. We just thought this would be an amazing fit for the club.”
